About the Big Band Benefit
The Sentimental Journey orchestra is one of the top swing orchestras in the southeast.  The band has been in existence for 35 years and has gained a reputation of being one of the finest entertainment acts in the area.  With a traditional Big Band instrumentation (4 trumpets, 4 Trombones, 5 Saxophones, Piano, Bass, Drums, and Guitar) the band plays music of Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Les Brown, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Michael Buble’, Harry Connick, Jr., Bobby Darrin, Ray Charles, and more.  The band has played for numerous weddings, parties, and on some of Atlanta’s premier stages.  The band was the featured performer for Jimmy Carter’s Nobel Prize reception as well as the Fox Theaters 75th Anniversary Gala.

The Spalding Band Program is an almost entirely self-funded activity.  The band is in need of many new instruments and many repairs of some of the older ones.  The field shows during half time at our football games are entirely funded by band fundraisers.  Each piece of music that the band plays costs between $60 and $200.  Since the band must play between 9 and 12 pieces a year, your support will mean that the band can continue to play the most recent and up to date compositions.  The most important reason to support the band is that music enriches the lives of all of the members of the community and especially the children of Spalding County.  The students are also raising money for an upcoming trip to the great city of Chicago.
